Crystal of the Month...Prehnite

I won't lie, I didn't like the look of this gemstone at first.

However, it's grown on me and now I absolutely love it! And to me, green and March just go together, so I thought I'd share some interesting information about Prehnite!

Prehnite with Epidote Inclusions

Prehnite was first found in South Africa, discovered in late 18th century and named after a Dutch Colonel, Hendrik von Prehn.

It is a soft, pearly, serene apple-green color sometimes with yellow undertones. It is rarely transparent, usually translucent. Prehnite is also found in Australia, China, Scottland and Quebec.

The Kayes Region in Mali produces Prehnite with Epidote inclusions, which is common to see in beads. Epidote is a yellow-green/pistachio green in color and often mistaken for Black Tourmaline. (see image left) My latest purchase of beads even included a few small rainbows!

Chakra: Green Prehnite is associated with the Heart Chakra.

Zodiac: Libra and Virgo.

Element: Earth

Metaphysical Properties

"Heal the Healer"

In lore, the Australian Aborigines believed that the mineral could absorb and store the sun’s energy. Some Shamanistic traditions view Prehnite as a sacred stone due to its ability to vibrate quickly between the invisible/visible planes of existence.

Today, Prehnite is known as a stone of unconditional love. It deepens meditation and enhances the visualization process, as well as precognition and inner knowing. It is said to connect to the Archangel Raphael, and allows you to be prepared, showing you the way forward on your journey to spiritual growth. Prehnite can strengthen your harmonious connection to nature and the elements.

Prehnite is also a good Feng Shui stone, helping you to declutter possessions that are no longer needed, possibly helping to resolve "hoarding" tendencies due to an inner feeling of "lack".

How To Use It
Prehnite with Rudraksha, Vesuvianite & Botanical Charm

There are several ways to incorporate Prehnite into your routines. Raw or polished Prehnite specimens can be held in your hand during meditation. For visualization, it can be placed on the third eye. Wearing Prehnite as jewelry is effective as well, Mala beads and necklaces keep Prehnite close to your heart chakra and you can also hold it in your hand during meditation.
